What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that combines talking therapy with hypnosis to support positive change.
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation. It’s similar to the feeling of becoming completely absorbed in a book, music or a journey, when you are aware of what is happening but your attention is focused elsewhere. During hypnotherapy, I guide you into this relaxed and focused state, creating space to explore thoughts, feelings, beliefs and patterns that may be affecting you.
Because the mind can be more receptive to helpful suggestions during hypnosis, we can work together to strengthen positive ways of thinking, develop new responses and support the changes you want to make.
You are always in control.
Hypnotherapy is not about being made to do anything against your will, and you cannot be forced into a state of hypnosis. You remain aware of what is happening and can choose to stop at any time.
For me, hypnotherapy is about helping you access your own resources and strengths — not taking control away from you. It can be used alongside therapeutic conversation to support a wide range of personal goals, including confidence, self-esteem, stress, anxiety, habits, fears and making positive changes in your life.
You don’t lose control. You gain a different way of accessing it.
Misconceptions About Hypnotherapy.
There are many myths and misconceptions surrounding hypnotherapy. It isn’t mind control, and it isn’t about being asleep, unconscious or unaware of what is happening. You remain awake, aware and in control throughout the experience, and you cannot be made to do anything against your wishes or values. Hypnotherapy isn’t about revealing secrets or losing control of yourself, and it certainly isn’t magic or a quick fix. It is a therapeutic process that requires your involvement and willingness to make change. Unlike stage hypnosis, therapeutic hypnotherapy is a private, purposeful and collaborative experience, focused entirely on you and what you want to achieve. My role is not to take control away from you, but to guide and support you in accessing your own strengths, resources and capacity for positive change.
