    What is Hypnotherapy?

A calm space to explore positive change

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis—a state of focused attention, often accompanied by deep relaxation—as part of a therapeutic approach. It may involve guided relaxation and suggestions agreed with you to help you work towards your goals.

At The Gate Therapy, I offer solution-focused hypnotherapy for adults in Harrogate and online.

We can begin by talking about what brings you here, what you would like to feel different and the changes that matter to you. You don’t need to arrive with all the answers.

    Will I be in control?

Yes. Hypnotherapy is not about someone taking control of your mind.

You remain in control during hypnosis and do not have to accept any suggestion you do not want to. You can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state if you need to.

    What happens during a session?

We start with a conversation about your needs and what you would like to work towards.

If we agree that hypnotherapy is appropriate, a session may include:

    • Guided relaxation to help you settle.

    • Focused attention and agreed suggestions connected to your goals.

    • Time to return to your usual level of alertness at the end.

You are welcome to ask questions and tell me if something feels uncomfortable.

    What can we talk about?

I welcome adults seeking support with:

    • Anxiety and stress.

    • Low confidence.

    • Difficult life changes.

    • The pressures of teaching and working in education.

    • Times when life simply feels overwhelming.

We can discuss what you are experiencing and whether my approach is appropriate for you. There is no promise of a particular outcome or a fixed number of sessions.

    Is Hypnotherapy for everyone?

Hypnotherapy is not suitable for everyone and should not replace necessary medical or mental-health care.

The NHS advises that hypnotherapy may not be safe for people with schizophrenia, a history of psychosis or epilepsy. If any of these apply, seek advice from your GP before considering hypnotherapy. Please also tell me about relevant health conditions and any treatment you are receiving.
